AI a hype, a myth and reality!

AI is not only dominating the stock market, but also the news. Not only teachers cannot get away from it, but the business community also has to work on it. Recently, the obligation for employers to ensure that those who work with AI are actually AI-literate came into force. This obligation stems from the European AI Act.

The term AI evokes futuristic associations but is in fact meaningless. The term AI describes a wide range of technologies that power many of the services and goods we use every day, from apps that recommend TV shows to chatbots that provide real-time customer support.

The impact of AI is very difficult to pinpoint, given the stormy developments it is going through; not surprising, after all, unadulterated AI ‘learns to learn better and better’. Furthermore, AI has a financial tailwind, an incredible amount of capital has been invested in AI by large financial parties and governments. Not passing is therefore not an option.

But we are only at the beginning of the AI revolution. We are now seeing results that were not realistic for a few months or even weeks. It is sometimes beyond our imagination.

But AI is also a hype. If you don’t participate in AI, you don’t seem to have a right to exist anymore! Neither as a person nor as a company.

Of course, it is always necessary to keep an eye on the trends that are going on in your market and/or field and, where innovative applications really add value to your processes, to embrace them and integrate them into your working method or business operations.

But we have also reached a phase where the wheat still needs to be separated from the chaff. Not everything that is shown turns out to be an improvement in practice or practically feasible! That does not alter the fact that having knowledge of these solutions is of value, after all, what is not yet easy to fit in or apply may be tomorrow.

Keep a critical eye and get on board when the time comes! Look for those applications that immediately give your process a positive boost. Keep the changes clear so that you get your teams on board with the changing processes.  Realize that what is on the market today and can be implemented may no longer be relevant tomorrow.

In short, make a careful assessment. Select reliable parties and define your objectives very carefully and concretely before you embark on a new path.

This is exactly the route that we as Linx IT Solutions always take. New technology is embraced if it makes a proven contribution to process optimization. Whether there is AI in the name or not.

We have long been on the path of following AI developments and implementing AI applications. For example, an AI feature for color recognition in product photography was already implemented in 2019. And in 2023, AI-based translations of meta-data. In 2024, Linx IT introduced AI-freestanding images and this year, several AI technology-based functions will become available within the image conversion module.

If you are involved in marketing communication and/or e-commerce photography, keep following us. We deliver optimized online image processing processes that are practically applicable and deliver immediately relevant demonstrable results!
