The European Color Initiative (ECI) is a group of experts working on device-independent processing of color data in digital publishing systems. ECI was founded in June 1996 in Hamburg on the initiative of the publishing houses Bauer, Burda, Gruner+Jahr and Springer.

The ECI colour profile is a colour standard used for offset sheets of printing on coated paper (gloss/silk) with a maximum ink coverage of 330%. The profile is suitable for paper types 1 and 2. There is also a variant with a maximum ink coverage of 300%, this is ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI).
